What You Can Do
A public hearing at the Orangetown Town Hall, 26 West Orangeburg Rd. is scheduled for Tuesday November 28th at 7:00 pm. There will be a public comment period during which members of the public may address the board regarding the adoption of this local law.
We ask that you consider what the impact on your neighborhood might be if an outdoor bar and entertainment venue, serving not only cider, but any beer, wine, and spirits, produced in NYS, opened in its midst.
The issue is not whether you like the cidery, like cider, like music, or don’t like any of them. What is at stake is the logic and stability of our zoning laws. Homeowners, and those looking to become homeowners, in Orangetown need to have confidence that their town board supports existing, sensible zoning laws that keep residential neighborhoods safe and business districts thriving. Residents should feel secure knowing that the town will not randomly change the zoning laws to favor dissimilar and inappropriate uses in their neighborhoods. Business owners should have confidence that all businesses are being held to the same standards.
If you are an Orangetown resident, or business owner, please attend the public hearing and support the existing zoning code which protects not only our homes, but robust and thriving commercial districts.
If you cannot attend the public hearing:
If you cannot attend the hearing letters may be sent to the board the day before, or day of, the public hearing. Letters should state that they are to be placed in the record of the November 28th, 2023, public hearing for the proposed local law to allow farm wineries, farm cideries, and agritourism in R80 / R40 districts.
Letters may be sent to the following:
